About Laminate

The Smart Floor for Vancouver Homes.

Laminate flooring has come a long way from the buzzy, plasticky planks of the 1990s. Today's premium laminate is a four-layer engineered product with a high-resolution photographic image of real wood under an aluminum-oxide wear layer that shrugs off scratches, dents, dog claws, dropped pans, and rolling office chairs—all at a fraction of the cost of solid hardwood.

For Vancouver homeowners, the case is straightforward: we get rain. Lots of it. Modern laminate boards now come with sealed edges, water-resistant HDF cores, and gasket-tight click systems that handle the wet boots, leaky umbrellas, and pet accidents that are part of life on the West Coast. Premium options can sit in standing water for 24+ hours without swelling.

Pacific Floor & Coatings has been installing laminate across Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and the Lower Mainland for over a decade. We don't take shortcuts on subfloor prep. We don't fudge the underlayment. And we don't disappear when something needs adjusting six months later. You get a beautifully laid floor, and a real person to call if anything ever goes sideways.

Why Choose Laminate

Six Reasons Vancouver Homeowners Pick Laminate.

Tougher Than Hardwood

Aluminum-oxide wear layer resists scratches, dents, and impact better than solid hardwood. Pet-claws-and-kids approved.

Water-Resistant Options

Premium laminate now handles 24–72 hours of standing water—built for Vancouver's wet seasons and rainy entryways.

Half the Cost of Hardwood

Get the look of premium oak, walnut, or hickory at a fraction of the price—without sacrificing visual realism.

Fast Installation

Click-lock floating systems install over most existing surfaces. Most homes finish in 1–2 days, not a week.

Hypoallergenic & Easy Care

No grout lines, no fibers, no moss for dust to hide in. Sweep, damp-mop, and you're done.

Stunning Visual Variety

Hundreds of wood, stone, and tile looks—wide planks, herringbone, textured embossing, matte finishes. We bring samples.

AC Ratings Explained

Not All Laminate Is Created Equal.

The AC (Abrasion Class) rating tells you how much abuse a laminate can take. Here's the cheat sheet—and what we recommend for each space.

AC2
Light Residential

Bedrooms Only

Minimum durability. Suitable for low-traffic bedrooms or guest rooms. We rarely install this grade and don't recommend it for Vancouver homes.

AC3
General Residential

Standard Homes

The most common residential grade. Handles living rooms, hallways, and dining rooms. Good baseline for budget-conscious projects.

AC4
Heavy Residential / Light Commercial

Our Recommendation

The sweet spot. Tough enough for kitchens, entries, busy households with pets and kids. Holds up in offices and small retail.

AC5
Heavy Commercial

Rentals & Storefronts

Maximum abuse rating. Built for retail floors, public buildings, and rental properties where the floor needs to outlast tenants.

Common Questions

Things Vancouver Homeowners Always Ask.

Don't see your question? Call us at (236) 878 3386—we usually reply same day.

How much does laminate flooring cost in Vancouver? +
Most homeowners spend between $4–$9 per square foot installed for quality AC3–AC4 laminate, including underlayment, transitions, and labor. Premium AC5 commercial-grade or water-resistant options run a bit higher. We provide an exact line-item quote after a free in-home measure—no estimate-by-phone guesswork.
Is laminate good for Vancouver's wet climate? +
Yes, with the right product. Premium water-resistant laminate (Aqua Protect, AquaGuard, and similar tech) handles 24–72 hours of standing water without swelling. For bathrooms or laundry rooms with frequent water exposure, we'd steer you toward LVP or SPC instead. We'll match the right product to each room during your consultation.
How long does laminate flooring last? +
A quality AC4 laminate, properly installed and reasonably maintained, will give you 15–25 years of service. Most premium products carry 25-year residential warranties. The real life-shorteners are poor subfloor prep, missing expansion gaps, and using the wrong AC class for the traffic—all things we get right on every job.
Can laminate be installed over my existing floor? +
Often, yes. Laminate is a "floating floor" and can install over most flat, hard surfaces—tile, vinyl, hardwood, even concrete—as long as the surface is level, dry, and structurally sound. Carpet has to come up. We inspect the subfloor at the consultation and tell you exactly what's needed.
How long does installation take? +
A typical 800–1,200 sq ft Vancouver home takes 1–3 days from start to finish, including subfloor prep and trim work. Larger homes or layouts with stairs, multiple rooms, or intricate cuts can run 4–5 days. You'll get a firm timeline with your written quote.
Will laminate be noisy underfoot? +
Not when it's installed properly. The right acoustic underlayment—which we always include—dramatically reduces hollow-sound and footfall noise. For upper floors and condos, we'll spec a thicker IIC-rated underlayment that meets strata sound requirements.
What's the difference between AC3, AC4, and AC5 laminate? +
AC ratings measure abrasion resistance—the higher the number, the tougher the wear layer. AC3 is fine for general residential use. AC4 is our most-recommended grade for Vancouver homes—it handles kitchens, entries, pets, and kids without issue. AC5 is overkill for most homes but ideal for rentals and commercial spaces.
Do you handle the old floor removal and disposal? +
Yes. We can remove and dispose of carpet, old laminate, vinyl, or tile as part of the project. It's quoted as a separate line item so you can compare vendors fairly, and we haul it to a recycling depot wherever possible.
